The event is organised by Cancer Research UK to raise funds for cancer research. It takes place at Harlow Town Park, Fifth Avenue, Harlow, CM20 2QQ, with the start area on the main showground.

The course starts on grass and is mainly on tarmac pathways with a small amount on grass. The 10k consists of two laps of the 5k route. The meeting point is the main showground area in Harlow Town Park.
Entry information lists a fee for participants aged 16 and over and a reduced fee for children, and a minimum fundraising target is set. Participants receive a fundraising pack, a customisable back sign, training plans and a Race for Life medal on completion.
Facilities at the site include refreshments, toilets, allowance for dogs, and suitability for pushchairs. Wheelchair access is provided but there are some undulating paths and two large inclines near School Lane so assistance is advised. There is no designated Race for Life participant car park; nearby town centre and railway station car parks provide public parking. Blue badge parking is available at nearby public car parks.
