About the race
The PrisonBreak Triathlon takes place on 10 October 2026 at Brandvlei Correctional Centre, on the banks of the Brandvlei Dam near Worcester, Western Cape, South Africa. The event is CTTA/TSA sanctioned and held at a maximum security prison venue surrounded by mountain scenery and open water.
Event formats and distances include:
- Maxi Escape Triathlon: 1.5 km swim, 40 km cycle, 10 km run
- Mini Escape Triathlon: 750 m swim, 20 km cycle, 5 km run
- Maxi Aqua Bike: 1.5 km swim, 40 km bike
- Mini Escape Gang Relay: 750 m swim, 15 km cycle, 5 km run
- Maxi Escape Gang Relay: 1.5 km swim, 40 km cycle, 10 km run
The bike route is on tar road and is suitable for road, time trial or mountain bikes. The event is non-drafting and allows TT bikes. Age minimums are specified: Mini Escape 16 years by 31 December 2026, Maxi Escape 18 years by 31 December 2026; gang relay teams have younger-member minimums of 15 (mini) and 17 (maxi) years with other members older. Entry fees vary by category, with listed prices for each format. A prize pool valued at R32,000 is allocated across age categories. All participants receive a goody bag, swim cap, event T-shirt and a finisher medal. The organiser provides team relay options and a day license for gang entries where indicated.
