Primary Children's Vertical Kilometer
The Primary Children's Vertical Kilometer is a mountain running event that covers 1,000 vertical meters (3,280 feet) up the west face of Grandeur Peak. The scheduled race day is November 8, 2026. The course finishes at the summit of Grandeur and participants descend either back down the west face or toward the Churchfork trailhead and along Pipeline to the parking area.
The event raises funds for Primary Children's Hospital. One hundred percent of entry fees and donations support the hospital and its care programs. Entry donations are tax deductible. Registration notes include a limit of up to 100 participants and several donation options: a General Runner minimum donation of $20 with suggested donation levels such as $100, $250, and $500, a Sponsored Athlete donation level of $10,000, and an option to register without running while donating.
Logistics detail a morning check-in location at Eastwood Elementary School parking lot and a trailhead start on the west face of Grandeur. The summit can be icy or snowy; participants are advised to be prepared with appropriate traction and equipment. The event is unofficial because the forest service will not issue a permit, and therefore there is no official race sanctioning or event insurance.
