Pretzel City 5k
The Pretzel City 5k is a running and walking event held at Krape Park in Freeport, Illinois. Participants navigate a course consisting of flat roadways and paths that wind through the park grounds. The route is officially certified by USA Track and Field (code IL-12088-JW) and recognized by the RRCA. It also serves as part of the Rockford Road Runners circuit.
The course begins in the parking lot area near the mini-golf course and the baseball field. From there, the route follows Yellow Creek, passing landmarks such as the Krape Park waterfall and the twin caves. The path crosses two bridges and heads through the tree-lined south entrance of the park before returning to the finish. Water stations and time splits are located along the route to assist participants.
Chip timing services are provided for the race. Participants can expect refreshments and an awards ceremony following the event, held at the Gunkel Shelter. Pre-registered participants receive an event T-shirt as part of their entry. The event is open to runners and walkers of all abilities.
