Portumna Forest Marathon
The Portumna Forest Marathon takes place in Portumna Forest Park and includes trail races through a wooded setting. The event offers several race distances and is described as combining physical effort with a calm natural atmosphere that many participants find soothing.
Distances offered:
- 10K
- Half marathon (21K)
- Marathon (42K)
- 50K
Walkers and people using wheelchairs are welcome, but participation is limited to those aged over 18. Participants who require special equipment should be self-sufficient and bring spare parts or supplies as needed; road and trail surfaces are not guaranteed to be smooth and are under Coillte and OPW authority rather than the event organiser.
For safety, the use of music players with earphones is not recommended because they can reduce awareness of other runners and marshals. GPS devices, heart rate monitors, and stopwatches are allowed. Accompanying or pacing a participant by an athlete not entered in the same event is not permitted.
Spectators may support runners and may set up small gazebos or tents within certain areas; overnight camping is not allowed. Cut off times are applied to the longer events: 50K 8 hours, marathon 7 hours, half marathon 4 hours. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
