Porkies Wilderness Race

The Porkies Wilderness Race takes place in the Porcupine Mountains State Park on the south shore of Lake Superior. The park covers about 60,000 acres of forest, rocky beaches, waterfalls, and more than 90 miles of trails, including a section of the North Country National Scenic Trail.

Race distances:

  • 50 miles
  • 13.1 miles (Heavy Half-Marathon)

The 50-mile course was not designed for ease or speed. Climbs and descents are steep; flats are often muddy, rocky, and rooted. Night sections can be remote and quiet with long periods alone on trail. Aid stations and a printable course sheet with station details are provided for runners and crew.

Logistics include packet pickup at Presque Isle Porcupine Pavilion and shuttle pickup for half-marathon runners at the Presque Isle parking lot; 50-mile runners start and finish in the same location. Time limits are in place for each distance, and race rules govern eligibility and conduct.

The organizers plan future expansion with designed 100-mile and 200-mile courses targeted for 2027 and 2028. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
