Porkies Wilderness Races - September 19, 2026
The Porkies Wilderness Races take place in Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park in Michigan on September 19, 2026. The park covers over 60,000 acres and features ridgelines, rocky Lake Superior shoreline, cascading waterfalls, and more than 90 miles of trail, including sections of the North Country National Scenic Trail.
The event offers these distances:
- 50 mile single loop
- Heavy Half Marathon follows the final stretch of the loop
The course is designed to showcase scenic and demanding terrain rather than speed-friendly running. Runners should expect steep climbs and technical descents, muddy, rocky, and root-filled trail surfaces, remote stretches with limited access, night running in deep wilderness conditions, and long periods of solitude with minimal external noise beyond wildlife and flowing water.
Aid stations are placed along the route and are stocked with a mix of traditional ultra fare and hot options. Because of the remote course, crews and pacers are restricted to designated access points only. The organizer seeks volunteers for aid stations and has an option to roll over an entry by completing an eight hour volunteer shift at the current year’s race. Registration closes on Wed, Sep 16 at 11:59 PM CT. Ultrasignup offers refund protection at checkout. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
