Porkies Wilderness Races
The Porkies Wilderness Races take place in Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park near Ironwood, Michigan. The event is organized by Ornery Mule Racing and is scheduled for mid September 2027. Registration opens November 15, 2026 at 12:00 AM CT.

- 50 mile single-loop course
- Heavy Half Marathon following the final stretch of the 50 mile loop
The course runs through extensive backcountry terrain within a large state park and uses sections of long-distance trails. Runners should expect steep climbs, technical descents, muddy and rocky surfaces, root-filled trail tread, remote sections with limited access, and stretches of night running and prolonged solitude. The loop course emphasizes route exposure to wilderness features rather than speed.
Aid stations are placed along the route and will offer a mix of typical ultra fare and hot options. Crews and pacers are restricted to designated access points because of the remote nature of the course. Ultrasignup offers refund protection at checkout; the alternate rollover option is completion of an eight hour volunteer shift at the current year’s race without exceptions.
Volunteers are requested to staff aid stations and groups may organize trail-side support. Dogs are not permitted to participate in the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
