About the race
The Pirate Nurse 5K is an event at the ECU Health Sciences Campus that includes an in-person 5 km race, a Kids' Run, and a virtual race option. The course begins in front of the College of Nursing, travels through the Medical District and the Health Science Campus, goes around Laupus Lake, and finishes in front of the Health Science Building.
Registration opens on November 6, 2026. In-person race registration closes March 26, 2027; Kids' Run registration remains open through the event date. Standard individual registration is $35 and ECU students receive a $10 discount. Prices increase by $10 after March 27, 2027. A t-shirt and additional giveaways are offered, though t-shirt availability is not guaranteed after March 28, 2027.
Awards are given for overall male and female finishers and for the top two finishes in each age division: 12 and under, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 and up. The event is associated with the College of Nursing and includes a charitable component tied to nursing service and education. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
