Event
The Pineywoods RUCK Relay is a team relay covering 27 miles from the Upshur County Courthouse area in Gilmer to the Gregg County Courthouse in Longview, Texas. Teams consist of 2 to 4 members. The entry fee is charged per team. The event provides hydration, event shirts, a finisher patch, team awards for 1st–3rd place, and a DFL "Dead Freakin' Last" award.
Course, logistics and requirements
The course is self-navigated with checkpoints approximately every 5-7 miles and five total legs. Only one team member runs each leg. Surfaces include highway shoulders, backroads, sidewalks, and dirt or grass at the road edge. Total elevation gain is about 1,700 ft. There are no course markings or road closures; some roads have high speed limits.
Participants must carry a communication device. Those who start in the dark must wear a headlamp. All participants must wear high-visibility traffic safety gear on public roadways, stay on the left side facing traffic, and move to the shoulder when there is oncoming traffic. Ruck weight rules apply: if a participant weighs more than 150 lbs they must carry a 30 lb ruck; if less than 150 lbs they must carry a 20 lb ruck. The start location is The Body Health and Wellness, 215 Buffalo St, Gilmer, and the finish is at the Longview Courthouse; participants are responsible for return transport.
