Pineywoods RUCK Relay

The Pineywoods RUCK Relay is a team relay covering 27 miles from the Upshur County Courthouse area in Gilmer, TX to the Gregg County Courthouse in Longview, TX. Teams of 2 to 4 people alternate through five legs, each leg ranging 5-7 miles, and must self-navigate a predetermined route with checkpoints where teams check in and swap. The event provides hydration at aid stations, a finisher patch and event tee, and awards for first through third place and last place.

Course, safety and rules

The route uses highway shoulders, backroads, sidewalks and dirt or grass sides of roads and has about 1,700 ft total elevation gain. There are no course markings or road closures; roads may be open to traffic and have high speed limits. Required gear and rules include a weighted ruck (30 lb if over 150 lb, 20 lb if under 150 lb), high-visibility traffic safety gear on public roadways, a communication device, and headlamps for participants who start in the dark. Teams are responsible for navigation, pacing and logistics; participants must stay on the left side of the road facing traffic and move to the shoulder when vehicles approach. Participants must arrange their own return from the finish location back to Gilmer. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
