Event

The Pineywoods RUCK Relay is a 27 miles team relay from the Upshur County Courthouse in Gilmer to the Gregg County Courthouse in Longview, Texas. Teams consist of 2 to 4 members who alternate legs; there are five legs in total, each 5-7 miles long. The event provides checkpoints and aid along the route. Registration is per team and the team captain completes the registration.

Course and requirements

The route is self-navigated and uses highway shoulders, backroads, sidewalks, and dirt or grass sides of roads. The course has about 1,700 ft total elevation gain and is described as flat or rolling hills. There are no course markings or road closures. Aid station hydration, event shirts, and awards are provided; other support, navigation, and logistics are the responsibility of each team.

Safety and equipment rules include wearing high-visibility traffic safety gear on public roadways, staying on the left side of the road facing traffic, moving to the shoulder when oncoming traffic approaches, and carrying a communication device. Participants who start in the dark must wear a headlamp. Ruck weight requirements: 30 lb if over 150 lb body weight, 20 lb if under 150 lb; a ruck sack or vest is allowed.
