Pineywood Ruck Relay
The Pineywood Ruck Relay is a team-based challenge covering approximately 27 miles from Gilmer to Longview, Texas. The course begins at The Body Health and Wellness and concludes at the Gregg County Courthouse. This relay is designed for teams of 2-4 members who transition at specific intervals.
The event consists of five legs, each ranging between 5-7 miles in length. Teams are responsible for their own navigation using a predetermined map, as there are no course markings or road closures. Only one team member may be active on a leg at any given time. Participants must check in at designated checkpoints every 5-7 miles to swap runners. The route features a mix of highway shoulders, backroads, sidewalks, and dirt or grass road edges, with a total elevation gain of approximately 1,700 feet.
Specific weight requirements apply to all participants. Those weighing over 150 lbs must carry a 30 lb ruck, while those weighing less than 150 lbs must carry a 20 lb ruck. Both rucksack and vest styles are permitted. Safety is emphasized, requiring all participants to wear high-visibility traffic safety gear. Those participating during dark hours are required to wear a headlamp and must carry a communication device, such as a cell phone, at all times.
Participants receive the following:
- Pineywoods Ruck Relay Tee
- Finisher Patch
- Aid station hydration
- Professional photography
Teams are responsible for their own transportation back to the start point in Gilmer after finishing in Longview. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
