Pineywood RUCK Relay
The Pineywood RUCK Relay is a team ruck relay covering a total of 27 miles from the Upshur County Courthouse area in Gilmer to the Gregg County Courthouse in Longview, Texas. Teams of two to four split the route into five legs of about 5 to 7 miles, with team members swapping at predetermined checkpoints. The route is self navigated and teams must follow the provided course map and hit each checkpoint.
The course runs on highway shoulders, backroads, sidewalks, and dirt or grass sides of roads. Elevation is described as flat or rolling with roughly 1700 feet of total ascent. The start location is The Body Health and Wellness at 215 Buffalo St, Gilmer, TX 75644; the finish is at the Longview Courthouse. Participants are responsible for return travel after finishing.
Event logistics note that registration is per team and the team captain must register on behalf of teammates. The event is self supported; organizers provide the route, hydration at aid stations, event tee and finisher patch, awards, and photography. There are no course markings or road closures.
Mandatory requirements include carrying a ruck of the specified weight (30 lb for participants over 150 lb, 20 lb for participants under 150 lb), wearing high visibility traffic safety gear on public roadways, staying on the left side of the road facing traffic, moving to the shoulder when facing oncoming traffic, carrying a communication device, and one person completing each leg with checkin at checkpoints. Participants who begin in darkness must wear a headlamp. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
