Pilliga Ultra
The Pilliga Ultra is a three day trail running event held from 18 to 20 September 2026 at Pilliga Pottery near Coonabarabran, New South Wales. The event offers a range of running and walking options over natural trails on Gomeroi Country, with onsite activities, workshops and communal meals at the event hub.
Race options include:
- 10 km
- 20 km
- 50 km
- Grand Slam
- Kids race and Elders Walk
The event is organised to support local community efforts to recognise the cultural and environmental significance and biodiversity of the Pilliga Forest. Organisers do not require mandatory fundraising; instead 10% of each race entry is contributed to a fund managed by For Wild Places, and event profits are split between For Wild Places and the Pilliga Fund to support local initiatives.
The Pilliga Forest is described as a biodiversity hotspot and a culturally significant landscape for the Gomeroi people, home to many native animals and plant species and recharge zones for the Great Artesian Basin. The event materials note threats to the forest from coal seam gas development and emphasise economic and community benefits from increased visitor attention.
Onsite accommodation is offered at Pilliga Pottery / Barkala Farm with camping, self contained and bunk room options. Alternative accommodation is available in Coonabarabran or Narrabri and the Pottery is reached by gravel road off the Newell Highway. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
