Event Overview

The PHUNT 25K/50K Trail Race takes place on Saturday, January 16, 2027, at the Fair Hill Natural Resource Management Area in Elkton, Maryland. The start and finish location is the Edward L. Course & Location

The course is described as fairly tame compared to other parks in the mid-Atlantic region, featuring gentle rolling hills and moderately steep climbs not exceeding 150 feet. The 15.6-mile loop consists of approximately 1.0 total mile of asphalt or gravel road at the start and finish, about 1.0 mile of pasture or open field running, with the remainder on single-track trails.

Amenities & Logistics

The heated start/finish activity hall has a capacity of 400, a full kitchen, and restrooms, with space for gear storage. Alcohol is permitted (BYOB). Ample parking is available, but car-pooling is encouraged. The event has a maximum field of 600 runners. The online entry fee is $40 plus a processing fee. No refunds, bib transfers, or deferments are offered.

All finishers receive a medal and a swag item (such as a buff, beanie, or pint glass). Aid stations are located at mile 4.3, 7.5, and 11.5 on the loop, with the start/finish also serving as an aid station for the 50K. Stations are stocked with a wide variety of food and drink, including gels, electrolyte drink, water, soda, beer, candy, cookies, chips, fruit, broth, bacon, grilled cheese sandwiches, and Uncrustables. Each aid station features a wood or propane fire pit.

Weather Considerations

As a winter event in the mid-Atlantic, participants should be prepared for variable conditions. Historical averages for the area are a low of 24°F and a high of 42°F, but past events have seen temperatures from 6°F to 30°F with snow.
