Phunt 25K/50K Trail Race
The Phunt Trail Race takes place at the Fair Hill Natural Resource Management Area in Elkton, Maryland. Participants can choose between two primary distances:
- 25K (approximately 15.6 miles)
- 50K (two loops of the course)
The event is held in winter conditions with a participant limit of 600 runners. The course consists of approximately 15.6 miles per loop, featuring gentle rolling hills and moderately steep climbs that do not exceed 150 feet in elevation gain. The terrain includes roughly 0.5 miles of asphalt and gravel road at the start and finish, 1.0 mile of open pasture and fields, and the remaining distance on single-track trails.
The event headquarters is the Edward L. Walls Activity Hall, a heated facility equipped with a kitchen and restrooms where runners can store gear or change clothes. Major aid stations are located at mile 4.3, 7.5, and 11.5, with the start and finish area serving as an additional station for those completing the 50K distance. Aid stations are equipped with wood or propane fire pits and provide various supplies including water, electrolyte drinks, gels, soda, broth, and solid foods such as bacon, grilled cheese sandwiches, and fruit.
All finishers receive a medal and a commemorative item, such as a beanie or pint glass. The event has a strict cut-off time at the final aid station to ensure participants reach the finish line by the designated conclusion of the day. Entry fees are non-refundable and cannot be transferred or deferred. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
