Percival's Island Firecracker 5 Mile Race
The event is a five mile running race held on July 4, 2026, with the start and finish at Percival's Island Natural Area in downtown Lynchburg (1600 Concord Turnpike). The course follows the Blackwater Creek Bikeway, a paved rails-to-trails path along the James River. The route is described as flat, paved, shaded, and configured as an out-and-back.
Online registration is required; paper registration is not available. Registration fees are structured by date: $30 through June 30, and $35 for the early July period. A $5 discount is available to current Lynchburg Road Runners Club members if membership is valid on race day and the discount is applied before the listed deadline. Registration fees are non-transferable and non-refundable, and entries cannot be deferred to a future year or event.
Assisted participants who require a stroller appropriate for the event must register both the assisted person and the pusher; assisted entries are ranked separately and will start before the main field. The event uses chip timing with disposable MyLaps race bib technology. Awards are given by chip time to the top three overall men and women, top masters men and women, and top three in each age group. Age group categories begin at 12 and under and extend through 75 and up. Packet pickup is scheduled the day before at a local running store and on race morning at Percival's Island.
