About the race
The Pelorus Challenge OY4 event takes place at Canaan Downs on Takaka Hill, Tasman, New Zealand, on Sunday 29 November 2026. The event is part of the season-long Orienteer of the Year series run jointly by two clubs and contributes points toward the Pelorus Challenge competition. Pre-registration is required; there is no registration on the day. Additional details about the Event Centre, registration location, start and finish will be provided later. There are four difficulty levels with multiple Red course lengths available.
The listed course levels are: - White - Yellow - Orange - Short Red - Medium Red - Long Red Course specifics for each level and the individual course details will be added when available. Scoring for the Pelorus Challenge is by grade across events. To qualify competitors must run in the same grade throughout the year. Grade winners at each event receive 25 points; other competitors receive points proportional to the winner’s time down to a minimum of 5 points.
The planner and controller for an event each receive full points. Each competitor’s worst event score is dropped when calculating final totals. Club membership is required to collect points for that club; nonmembers may compete but do not earn club points. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
