Event
Old Tom Backyard is a Last Runner Standing-style Backyard Ultra held on July 4, 2026 near Blumenort, Manitoba. The event is capped at 75 participants and is open to people aged 18 or older. Registration opens December 6, 2025, with an early registration period ending January 3, 2026. The published entry fee is $175; GST and platform fees are not included. Included for entrants are a custom race T-shirt, a locally made medallion, access to private trails, fuel and snack station items, water and ice, coffee, a swag bag, and on-site first aid.
Course, format and rules
The Backyard Ultra format requires runners to complete a lap of 4.167 miles (6.71 km) in less than one hour. A new lap begins every hour and the event continues until only one runner completes a lap that no one else can match. Day and night course layouts differ: the day loop uses winding treed singletrack and grass pasture trails, and the night loop follows local gravel roads on an out-and-back. Runners must finish each lap within one hour, may not accept or give support while on a lap, and may not use pacing or artificial aids such as poles. The venue is an active family farm with a covered corral and some restricted biosecurity areas. Pets are not allowed on the property.
