Old Tom Backyard - Last Runner Standing in Blumenort, MB
Old Tom Backyard is a Last Runner Standing event held on an active family farm near Blumenort, Manitoba, about 25 minutes southeast of Winnipeg. The course uses a day loop of winding treed singletrack and grass pasture trails and a night loop that is an out and back along local gravel roads. Course maps are posted on the event website.
Race staging and the corral are under an open sided pole shed to provide covered space for crew and spectators; participants may also set up tents outside. Some areas of the farm are off limits for biosecurity and animal health reasons. Pets are not allowed on the property. Organizers provide water and ice, a fuel/snack station with limited offerings, coffee, first aid, volunteers, a custom locally made medallion and a custom race T shirt for entries registered by the shirt guarantee date.
The field is capped at 75 runners for 2026 and entrants must be 18 years of age or older on race day. Registration opens December 6, 2025 and closes June 26, 2026. Early registration pricing and fees are noted; GST and online platform fees are not included.
Key event rules: each lap must be completed within one hour, the next lap begins on the hour signaled by a bell, and runners must be in the starting corral at the bell. No support is allowed during a loop beyond brief verbal encouragement, no pacing and no artificial aids including poles. The event is self supported for personal food needs; participants should plan to carry or otherwise provide their own fueling. The last runner to complete a lap more than all others is the winner under the stated rules. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
