Event overview

Old Tom Backyard is a Backyard Ultra held on July 4, 2026 near Blumenort, Manitoba. The event uses the Last Runner Standing format: participants run repeated laps of 4.167 miles (6.71 km) and must complete each lap within one hour. A new lap begins each hour until only one runner completes a lap that no one else can match. The field is capped at 75 runners and participants must be 18 years or older. Entry fee information and registration windows are provided by the organiser.

Course, rules and race site

The course uses private farm trails for daytime loops with winding treed singletrack and grass pasture, and a night loop on local gravel roads as an out-and-back. The event is hosted on an active family farm about 25 minutes southeast of Winnipeg. The race corral and staging areas sit under an open-sided pole shed; tents may be set up outside. Pets are not allowed and some farm areas are closed for biosecurity.

Runners must complete each loop within one hour. No pacing, no artificial aids, and no support may be exchanged on course during a lap. The event provides water, snacks, a fuel station, custom race T-shirt and medallion, first aid, and staffed volunteers. The Last Runner Standing receives a Silver Ticket toward the 2026 Team World Championships and prize money is available if a course record is beaten. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
