Old Tom Backyard
Old Tom Backyard is a Last Runner Standing event hosted on an active family farm near Blumenort, Manitoba, about 25 minutes southeast of Winnipeg. The course alternates a day loop of winding treed singletrack and grass pasture trails and a night loop that runs out and back on local gravel roads. Course maps are posted on the event website.
Registration opens December 6, 2025 and the 2026 field is capped at 75 runners. Entry is listed at $175; GST and UltraSignup fees are not included. Participants must be 18 years of age or older on race day. Registration by April 30 guarantees a T shirt.
Included items consist of a custom race T shirt, a locally made medallion, a swag bag, a fuel and snack station, water and ice, coffee, first aid and volunteer support. A DNF prize is listed.
Key rules: runners must finish each lap within one hour and the next lap starts on the hour, signaled by a bell. Participants must be in the starting corral at the bell; late starts are not allowed. No support may be given or taken during a loop except brief verbal encouragement. No pacing and no artificial aids including poles. Runners may not leave the course until a loop is completed. The event is self supported for food; organizers provide water, ice and a few snacks. Parts of the farm are restricted for biosecurity and pets are not permitted.
Prizing includes a Silver Ticket toward the 2026 Team World Championships for the last runner standing. If the last runner standing sets a new course record, currently 35 yards, the prize is $1000. If the last Canadian runner standing bests the Canadian home soil record, currently 68 yards, the prize is $10,000. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
