Old Tom Backyard

The Old Tom Backyard is a Backyard Ultra event, the only one of its kind in Manitoba. In this ultramarathon format, runners must complete a yard (lap) of 6.71 km in less than one hour. A new yard starts every hour, on the hour, until only one runner remains. The last person standing is the winner.

The event takes place on a farm in a rural setting, with trails on private property. Participants can set up a tent camp on-site, creating a "tent city". The course features day loops on farm trails and night loops on country roads.

An aid station is provided, with cinnamon rolls supplied after every four completed loops. Local sponsors support the event by providing equipment, first aid services, free Wi-Fi at base camp, and a misting/cooling system for heat. A $10,000 prize is announced for the Last Runner Standing if they beat the Canadian Home Soil record of 68 yards. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
