Event Overview
The Ocotillo Trail Endurance Challenge is a timed trail event open to runners, hikers, ruckers, and walkers. It takes place on a single 2-mile out-and-back trail loop. The course is located in the Southwestern Chihuahuan Desert, going through the canyon south of the Living Desert Zoo & Gardens on State Park and city land. The trail has an elevation gain of approximately 229 ft.
Event Format
Participants select a time limit and complete as many loops as they wish or are able to within that period. The offered individual and relay categories are:
- 1 HOUR - Individual
- 4 HOUR - Individual
- 8 HOUR - Individual
- 4 HOUR RELAY - Team
- 8 HOUR RELAY - Team
All events start together. Awards are given to the top male and female solo participants who cover the most distance in their event. For the relay categories, the first-place team award is based on total distance covered, regardless of team composition.

Medical staff and radio communications personnel will be present on the course. Parking is available at Southeastern New Mexico College (SENMC), with overflow parking on other campus lots.
