NZ Road Relay Championships
The NZ Road Relay Championships take place in Halcombe, Manawatū-Whanganui on 3 October 2026. The event offers both Open and Championship grades with team relays using rural roads around Halcombe. Course surfaces include sealed and gravel roads and legs feature varying elevation with climbs, flats, and descents. Minor course changes may be made before the event and detailed leg descriptions and elevation data will be published.
Teams run relays of different lengths and team sizes:
- Seven leg relay 70 kms, 7 runners
- Six leg relay 36 km, 6 runners
- Four leg relay 17 kms, 4 runners
- Five leg walk relay consists of legs 1 to 5 of the six leg course
Leg distances for the seven and six leg courses are published, with individual legs ranging from about 4.5 km to 13.7 km. Changeovers use a team relay baton and teams typically travel between legs by vehicle to reach changeover points.
Entry types include Open and Championship events. Championship entries require active competitive membership with an Athletics New Zealand club; some Open and Social events do not require club registration. Standard entries close Monday 21 September and late entries close Friday 25 September. The course closes at 3pm on event day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
