About the race
The NZ Road Relay Championships take place on 3 October 2026 in Halcombe, Manawatū-Whanganui. The event offers team relay racing on rural roads with sealed and gravel surfaces and varying elevation that includes climbs, flat sections, and fast descents. Course maps and detailed leg descriptions, including elevation, are provided and minor course changes may be made before the event. Teams can enter Open or Championship grades across multiple relay formats.
Championship grades require active competitive membership with an Athletics New Zealand club, while Social and Open events do not require club registration. Team managers collect bibs for their teams at the team managers meeting or at the event hub. Relay formats and sample distances: - Seven leg relay, 70 kms total, legs range from about 7.7 km to 13.7 km. - Six leg relay, 36 km total, legs range from about 4.5 km to 8 km. - Four leg relay, 17 kms total, short laps around Halcombe village. - Five leg walk relay, comprised of Legs 1 to 5 of the six leg course. Race logistics note that teams leapfrog in vehicles between changeovers and are responsible for delivering runners to changeover points. The course closes at 3pm for traffic management.
Additional event details, course maps, and an event guide will be made available before the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
