Num-Num Trail Challenge
The Num-Num Trail Challenge takes place on 25 July 2026 at Escarp Adventures on South Africa's Highveld escarpment. The event is a mountain running race held on narrow, purpose built single track that passes rocky outcrops, indigenous forest patches, and open grasslands.
The course features steep, technical climbs and wild descents. Routes are rugged, with rocky and rooty sections and uneven ground. The organisers describe the routes as largely single track, with roughly 90 percent single-track trail across the routes.
Distances and key details:
- Solo Knee-breaker: 36 km, 2350 m ascent, 4 aid stations, medal, post race beer, meal
- Half marathon Full Grit: 21 km, 1700 m ascent, 3 aid stations, medal, post race beer, meal
- Built to Burn: 15 km, 1100 m ascent, 3 aid stations, medal, post race beer, meal
- Social: 7 km, 450 m ascent, 1 aid station, race medal, well marked route
The event has limited entries and emphasizes the natural setting and the demanding nature of the terrain. It is presented as a mountain running experience focused on route quality and trail conditions rather than mass participation. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
