North East Triathlon
The North East Triathlon is held in North East, Maryland, on the Chesapeake Bay waterfront with courses that use local roads and Elk Neck State Forest. Event options include Olympic and Sprint distances and aquabike divisions.
- North East Olympic: 1.5K swim, 22.8 mile bike, 10K run
- North East Sprint: 750m swim, 11.0 mile bike, 5K run
- Aquabike options: 1.5K swim and 22.8 mile bike, 750m swim and 11.0 mile bike
The swim uses an in water start and a rectangular perimeter course with swim ladders at the exit. Yellow buoys mark turns and orange sighting buoys are placed about every 75 meters. Water temperatures in August are typically expected in the mid to upper 70s and a temperature reading is posted the Friday before the event.
Bike routes quickly become rural and pass through Cecil County and Elk Neck State Forest. The courses have good pavement, low traffic, hilly and technical sections, and reported elevation gain near 1300 feet for the longer course. Run courses are lightly rolling out and back on the shoulder of the main road south of town, with little shade and only two turns; aid stations provide ice water and Gatorade approximately every mile.
Packet pickup is at North East Community Park, 219 W Walnut St, North East, MD 21901, with an evening option the day before and a morning option at the race site. Participants must collect their own packet and present photo ID; a phone photo of an ID is acceptable. The event is USA Triathlon sanctioned and includes race shirts, socks, a finisher medal, post race food and drink, and free finisher photos. Several competition categories are scored and registration policies are non refundable with deferral options available. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
