North East Triathlon
The North East Triathlon takes place in North East, Maryland, on Sunday, August 23, 2026. The event features open water swims in the Chesapeake Bay, bike courses through Cecil County and Elk Neck State Forest, and paved out and back runs south of town.
Distances
- Olympic: 1.5K swim, 25.4 mile bike, 10K run
- Sprint: 750 m swim, 11 mile bike, 5K run
The swim courses start in the water and follow a rectangular perimeter with exit ladders. Turn buoys are yellow and sighting buoys are placed approximately every 75 meters. Organizers expect water temperatures in the mid to upper 70s in August and post a reading the Friday before the race.
Bike routes use rural, low traffic roads with sections that are hilly and technical, with stretches of good pavement and long straightaways. Run courses are paved shoulders on the main road south of town, lightly rolling with little shade, and serve ice water and Gatorade approximately every mile.
The event is USA Triathlon sanctioned. Categories include Overall, Masters Overall, Age Group, Aquabike, Military, Clydesdale, Athena, and Relay Teams, all scored three deep. Registrations are non refundable; race deferrals and one day USAT licenses are available. Packet pickup is offered Saturday evening and Sunday morning at North East Community Park, 219 W Walnut St, North East, MD 21901.
