About the race
The North East Triathlon is a multisport event held in North East, Maryland, with Olympic and Sprint triathlon and aquabike options. Swim courses take place in the Chesapeake Bay, begin with an in water start, follow a rectangular perimeter, and finish at swim ladders. Turn buoys are yellow and orange sighting buoys are placed about every 75 meters. Water temperatures in August are expected in the mid to upper 70s and an official reading is posted the Friday before the event.
Bike courses run on paved county roads through Cecil County and Elk Neck State Forest. Routes are described as low traffic, hilly and technical in places, with long straight sections and scenic views. Run courses are out and back on the shoulder of the main road south of town and are lightly rolling with minimal shade; aid stations provide ice water and Gatorade approximately every mile.

- Olympic triathlon: 1.5 km swim, 25.4 mi bike, 10 km run
- Sprint triathlon: 750 m swim, 11 mi bike, 5 km run
Race categories include Overall, Masters Overall, Age Group, Aquabike, Military, Clydesdale, Athena, and Relay Teams with scoring three deep. The event is USA Triathlon sanctioned; athletes must have current USAT membership or purchase a one day license. Packet pickup is available at the race site on the day before and on race morning; participants must show photo ID to collect materials.
