NightTriathlon - Rutland Water
NightTriathlon takes place at Whitwell, Rutland Water and combines a night swim, a closed-road bike course and an illuminated run. The event distance sits between sprint and super sprint and comprises three segments:
- Swim: 500m night swim in the creek
- Bike: 15km lapped course on closed site roads
- Run: 5km out-and-back on mixed terrain with route lighting
The swim course uses large illuminated markers for navigation and athletes are set off in intervals. A free swim familiarisation session on the same course is provided before the event. Glow sticks are supplied for the swim.
The bike course is traffic free within the Whitwell site and features wide sweeping turns and lapped circuits. Time trial bars are not permitted and bike lights are compulsory. The bike segment is non-drafting. The run takes place on mixed surfaces and competitors are required to wear a head torch.
One transition area is located at the heart of the event near the Whitwell harbour cafe start/finish. On-site facilities include parking, toilets, bag drop, catering and a medical treatment centre. Race services included with entry are a finisher medal, chip timing and a silicone swim hat. Late arrivals are not permitted and vehicle movement is restricted while the bike course is in use.
