About the race
The Neusiedler See Marathon 2026 is a running event on 27 September 2026 with start and finish at the Strandbad Illmitz in the Nationalpark Neusiedler See - Seewinkel, a UNESCO World Heritage area. The event offers road distances through a very flat landscape with views toward the Steppensee and the Schneeberg.
Race distances:
- Marathon 42,195 km
- Half marathon 21,0975 km
Official electronic timing is used with a one-way UHF transponder on the race number. All control points (start / 10 km / 20 km / 30 km / finish) must be passed. The time limit for both distances is seven hours. Finishers who arrive within the limits receive an immediate finisher medal and their official result and printable certificate are available online.
Participation requires paid registration; fees are tiered by distance and registration period (examples listed: Marathon €64 / €84 / €94; Half marathon €50 / €70 / €80). Minimum ages apply: 18 years for the marathon, 16 years for the half marathon. Start packets are issued on race day at the Strandbad Illmitz and include the race number with transponder, an official participation bracelet, a reusable cup, and an official marathon headband; a photo ID is required for pickup.
Medical teams and mobile rescue units are deployed in start, finish and on the course. Private support vehicles are not allowed on the race route; exceptions apply for wheelchairs and handbikes.
