Mud Mountain Dam Fall Event overview
The Mud Mountain Dam event offers three distances:
- Marathon - net downhill of approximately 1,200 ft, USATF certified, finish at McMillin Foothills Bridge.
- Half Marathon - net elevation loss of 339 ft, follows the Foothills Rail Trail to the McMillin Foothills Bridge.
- 5K - out-and-back route starting and finishing at the McMillin Trailhead.
Events are scheduled for May 30, 2026 and September 19, 2026. Registration opens January 1, 2026. The marathon and half courses are primarily paved; one description notes a brief section of packed gravel on the marathon route. The marathon route begins near Mud Mountain Dam and follows farmland and forest along the Carbon River to the historic McMillin Bridge.
Logistics, support and policies
Aid stations are placed about every 2 miles and provide water, electrolyte drinks, some energy gels, porta-potties, and basic first aid; medical personnel are on course and at the finish. Shuttle service runs from Orting parking locations to start areas; parking at the finish is limited. Packet pickup is offered before race day at a central location with day-of pickup options at start lines. All finishers receive a commemorative medal; tech shirts and collective bib options are available with order cutoffs to guarantee sizing. Entry fees are non-refundable with no transfers or roll-overs. Time limits apply to both marathon and half marathon, and early-start options exist for participants who require extra time.
