MTC Shamrock : event overview
The MTC Shamrock is a single-day ultra run on 11 May 2026 with a distance of 50 miles. It forms Day 4 of the MTC MizMal® fourteen-day end-to-end of Ireland and is part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge series. The published route is described as starting from Cliff House Hotel, Ballybunion and finishing at Limerick City Hotel. The event is listed as the 1st edition. Total ascent is 1,550 ft and total descent is 1,616 ft. All finishers receive a bespoke SHAMROCK medal; male and female champions receive bespoke trophies.
Entry, logistics, rules and kit
Entry is limited to 20 race-only places with an additional allowance of 20 MizMal® competitors, a maximum of 40 runners. Entry fees are shown as £90 for the race or £155 for a plus package that includes an embroidered race shirt and lightweight hi-viz jacket (clothing guaranteed only if ordered at least four weeks before the event). All fees are non-refundable; a defer option is available for a £15 fee up to four weeks before the event. Competitors must be at least 20 years old.
The organiser enforces a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph with preset cut-off points; runners falling below this may be withdrawn. Maps and GPX files are provided to entrants four weeks before the race. Competitors must carry mandatory kit including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food. Competitors are tracked by a device with an SOS function. Check-point food examples include malt loaf, sandwiches, sweets, squash, cola and water.
