MTC Shamrock - Ultra Running
The MTC Shamrock is a single-day ultra race covering 50 miles. It forms Day 4 of the MTC MizMal® fourteen-day end-to-end of Ireland and is part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge series. The published route follows much of the MizMal® course and concludes at Limerick City Hotel.
Field size is limited; the organiser permits 20 race-only entrants plus an additional allowance of 20 MizMal® competitors, giving a maximum of 40 runners. The course records a total ascent of 1,550 ft and a total descent of 1,616 ft. Maps and GPX files are provided only to entrants and are emailed approximately four weeks before the event. Competitors are tracked via devices supplied by the organiser; devices include an SOS function.
There are preset cut-off points based on a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph. Competitors who fall below that average may be warned and can be withdrawn if they remain below the threshold. Mandatory kit items include a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food.
Entry options and fees are published for the event, with a standard entry and a plus package that includes an embroidered race shirt and lightweight hi-viz jacket. All finishers receive a bespoke Shamrock medal and male and female champions receive trophies. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
