Event Overview

The MTC Shamrock is an ultramarathon with a distance of 50 miles. It is part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge series and also serves as day four of the fourteen-day MTC MizMal end-to-end of Ireland event. The race starts at the Cliff House Hotel in Ballybunion and finishes at the Limerick City Hotel.

Route and Logistics

The course follows the established MizMal route for most of its length. There are several checkpoints along the way, with food provided. The event is cup-free, so participants must bring their own reusable cup. Competitor numbers are capped at 40 runners in total, with a limit of 20 entries specifically for the standalone MTC Shamrock race.

Rules and Requirements

A minimum average pace of 4 mph is required throughout the event, and runners falling below this pace may be withdrawn. Participants must carry mandatory kit, including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, a compass or GPS device, a whistle, a mobile phone, and a basic first aid kit. Each runner will be provided with a tracking device for safety and progress monitoring.

Entry and Finisher Items

Entry fees are non-refundable. An option to upgrade the entry includes an embroidered race shirt and a lightweight hi-viz jacket. All finishers receive a bespoke Shamrock medal, and the male and female champions receive a unique trophy. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
