Event

The MTC Shamrock is a one-day ultra running event held on 10th May 2027. The race distance is 50 miles and it is listed as Day 4 of the MTC MizMal ® fourteen-day end-to-end series of Ireland. This is the first edition of the MTC Shamrock. Total ascent is 1,550 ft and total descent is 1,616 ft. UTMB points are listed as tba. All finishers receive a bespoke SHAMROCK medal; male and female champions receive trophies.

Course and logistics

The race is point-to-point and concludes at Limerick City Hotel. Route maps and GPX files are provided to entrants only and are emailed to competitors four weeks before the event. Tracking devices with SOS capability are issued to competitors for real-time tracking during the race. Check-points are placed at pre-determined locations and offer food such as malt loaf, sandwiches, sweets, squash, cola and water. The event is cup-free; competitors must bring a reusable cup.

Entry, cut-offs and mandatory kit

Competitor numbers are limited to 20, with an additional allowance of 20 for MizMal ® entrants (maximum 40). Entry fees are listed as £90.00 for the race or £155.00 for the Plus Race Package, which includes an embroidered race shirt and lightweight hi-viz jacket if ordered at least four weeks before the event. The organiser enforces a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; athletes falling below this may be withdrawn. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food.
