MTC Shamrock : 50 miles from Ballybunion to Limerick
The MTC Shamrock is a standalone 50-mile ultra that also forms Day 4 of the 14-day MizMal® end-to-end series. It takes competitors from the Cliff House Hotel in Ballybunion on the Atlantic coast to the Limerick City Hotel in Limerick, covering 50 miles with 1,550 ft of ascent and 1,616 ft of descent.
Competitors follow supplied GPX files and route maps; the event is not fully signed so independent navigation is required. Four checkpoints are positioned along the course and provide food and drink to supplement personal nutrition. Each competitor carries a GPS tracking device with SOS functionality so progress can be monitored.
The event operates to a minimum average pace of 4 mph and has published checkpoint cut-offs; competitors who fall below the required standard may be withdrawn. Entrants must be at least 18 years old and carry mandatory kit, including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, navigation tools, whistle, mobile phone, emergency food and a basic first aid kit.
Entry is available as Standard or Plus. Standard entry includes race entry, GPS tracking, checkpoint support and a bespoke finisher medal; Plus includes the race shirt and a lightweight hi-vis jacket.
