MTC Shamrock overview
The MTC Shamrock is a single day ultra race over 50 miles and forms Day 4 of the 14 day MizMal series. The route is described as starting from Cliff House Hotel, Ballybunion and concluding at Limerick City Hotel. MizMal competitors may be on the course at the same time.
Entry is limited to 20 race entrants plus an allowance of 20 MizMal competitors, giving a maximum field of 40. Entry fees are stated as £90 for the race and £155 for the race plus a package that includes an embroidered race shirt and a lightweight hi‑viz jacket if chosen at checkout. All payments are non refundable; an optional personal cancellation insurance policy can be added at booking.
The organiser publishes preset cut off points based on a minimum average pace of 4 mph. Competitors who fall below the minimum requirement can be warned and may be withdrawn without debate. Checkpoints provide food items such as malt loaf, sandwiches, sweets, squash, cola and water. The event is cup free so competitors should use a reusable cup.
Competitors must carry mandatory kit including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, an emergency food pack and a basic first aid kit. Maps and GPX files, plus real time tracking and a tracking device with an SOS button, are provided to entrants only prior to and during the race. All finishers receive a SHAMROCK medal; male and female champions receive bespoke trophies which are in the design stage. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
