MTC Selkie

The MTC Selkie is an ultra-marathon event covering approximately 42 to 45 miles. The race takes place in the Highlands of Scotland, starting at the Eagle Hotel in Dornoch and concluding at the Inver Caravan Park in Dunbeath. This event serves as Day 8 of the MTC Scotia, a nine-day end-to-end challenge series across Scotland.

The course follows a route that passes through several checkpoints, including Golspie, Brora, Helmsdale, and Berriedale. Participants are required to maintain a minimum average speed of 4 mph throughout the race. Those who fall below this pace will be withdrawn from the competition. As a cup-free event, participants must carry their own reusable drinking vessels to use at the aid stations, which provide food items such as malt loaf, sandwiches, and sweets.

Mandatory equipment for all participants includes:

  • A backpack, head torch with spare batteries, and a whistle.
  • A mobile phone, compass or GPS device, and a basic first aid kit.
  • Routes maps and an emergency food pack.

The race utilizes tracking devices to monitor the progress of all runners in real-time. Finishers receive a bespoke race medal, and trophies are awarded to the male and female champions. The event is limited to a maximum of 40 participants, including those completing the full multi-day Scotia series. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
