About the race
The MTC SELKIE is a single-day ultra that forms Day 8 of the Mount to Coast SCOTIA nine-day end-to-end series. The event runs from Dornoch to Dunbeath and is presented as a first edition event scheduled for 2028.
The route and listed total distance vary across documents; published values include 42–45 miles with recorded ascent around 3,880 ft. Check-points are placed along the route with staged distances and preset cut-off times based on a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; competitors who fall below this pace may be withdrawn. Competitor numbers are limited to 20, with an additional allowance of 20 places for SCOTIA entrants, giving a maximum field of 40.
All finishers receive a SELKIE medal; male and female champions receive bespoke trophies. Mapping and GPX files are provided only to entrants and emailed approximately four weeks before the event. Organisers supply tracking devices with real-time tracking and SOS capability during the race.
Entrants must be aged 20 or over on race day, be competent runners, and carry mandatory kit including a backpack, head torch and spare batteries, provided route maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, basic first-aid and emergency food. The event is cup-free so competitors need a reusable cup. Entry fees are non-refundable; a race-plus package option adds an event shirt and hi-viz jacket for an additional fee if ordered in advance.
