MTC SELKIE
The MTC SELKIE is a single-day ultra running event in northern Scotland and forms Day 8 of the Mount to Coast SCOTIA nine day series. The route runs from Dornoch (Eagle Hotel) to the Inver Caravan Park near Dunbeath and is listed at approximately 42 miles with around 3,880 ft of ascent and 3,743 ft of descent.
Competitor numbers are restricted: 20 regular entries with an additional allowance of 20 for SCOTIA entrants, creating a maximum field of 40. The organiser enforces preset cut-off times based on a minimum average speed of 4 mph; competitors who fall below this requirement may be withdrawn. Tracking devices with SOS capability are provided and real-time tracking is available during the race.
Maps and GPX files are supplied to entrants only, typically emailed four weeks before the event. The race is cup-free so competitors must use a reusable cup. Finishers receive a bespoke SELKIE medal and male and female champions receive trophies. Entry fee options are published and include a standard fee and a plus package that includes an embroidered race shirt and hi-vis jacket when ordered in advance.
A mandatory kit list is enforced; required items include a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, provided route maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food. All entries and payments follow the organiser terms which include non refundable fees and optional personal cancellation insurance or a defer option.
