MTC SELKIE
MTC SELKIE is a single-day ultra run organised as part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge series and listed as Day 8 of the MTC SCOTIA nine-day series. The organiser’s materials list the race distance variously as 42 miles, 43 miles and 45 miles; the route summary and checkpoint breakdown reflect a course that starts at the Eagle Hotel in Dornoch and finishes at Inver Caravan Park, Dunbeath.
The event is limited to 20 direct entries plus an allowance of 20 SCOTIA competitors, giving a maximum field of 40. The race uses preset cut-offs based on a minimum average speed of 4 mph; competitors falling below this threshold will be warned and may be withdrawn. Checkpoints are provided at Golspie, Brora (Saltire), Helmsdale and Berriedale, with example refreshment items listed for those stations.
Competitors must carry mandatory kit including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, the route maps provided by the organiser, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and an emergency food pack. The organiser issues tracking devices to entrants with real-time monitoring and an SOS function.
The entry fee is shown as £90 with an optional Plus Race Package at £155 that includes an embroidered race shirt and lightweight hi‑viz jacket. All payments are non refundable; an optional personal cancellation insurance and a defer option are offered. All finishers receive a SELKIE medal and male and female champions receive trophies.
