MTC SELKIE
The MTC SELKIE is a single-day ultra running event on 3 June 2028. It forms Day 8 of the nine-day Mount to Coast SCOTIA series. The course covers a long ultramarathon distance listed as 42 miles, with a recorded climb of about 2,828 ft and descent of about 2,966 ft. This is the first edition of the event. All finishers receive a bespoke SELKIE medal; male and female champions also receive trophies.
Route and checkpoints
The route starts at the Eagle Hotel, Dornoch, and concludes at Inver Caravan Park, Dunbeath. Designated checkpoints and approximate mileages are:
- CP1: Golspie, 9.3 miles
- CP2: Saltire, Brora, 17.5 miles (after a further 8.2 miles)
- CP3: Helmsdale, 25.5 miles (after a further 8 miles)
- CP4: Berriedale, 33 miles (after a further 7.5 miles)
Final section to the finish is about 9 miles.
Maps and GPX files are provided to entrants approximately four weeks before the event. Competitors are advised to carry a waterproof map case.
Entry, kit and rules
Entries are limited to 20 competitors plus an additional 20 places for SCOTIA entrants, giving a maximum of 40. Entry fees are non-refundable; a Plus Race Package option includes an embroidered race shirt and a hi-viz jacket if ordered at least four weeks before the event. Personal cancellation insurance is offered at checkout.
The event enforces a minimum average speed of 4 mph; falling below this minimum may lead to withdrawal. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, provided route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food. Competitors are issued tracking devices with SOS capability. The race is cup-free, so entrants must use a reusable cup. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
