Mount Jefferson Ascent
The Mount Jefferson Ascent is an untimed hike event in West Jefferson, NC, held on September 19, 2026. The route is approximately 5 miles with about 1,600 feet of elevation gain and reaches a highest point above 4,600 feet.
The course begins with a road climb to the park entrance, then follows Mountain Ridge Trail to a left turn toward the picnic shelter. Participants continue past the picnic shelter onto Summit Trail, proceed to Rhododendron Trail, then to Lost Province Trail, and complete a clockwise loop back to the picnic shelter for the finish.
Event features include a celebratory bell for all finishers and a custom bell for spectators who come to the final climb. The top three overall male and female finishers receive special custom bells. There is a mountain-top gathering with local mountain music and refreshments while participants finish, and shuttles are available to return people downhill after the event.
A portion of each registration fee is donated to the Blue Ridge Conservancy to support new trail construction in Ashe County. Registration closes on Thu, Sep 17. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
