Mount Jefferson Ascent
Mount Jefferson Ascent is an untimed trail hike and run in West Jefferson, North Carolina, scheduled for Saturday, September 19, 2026. The event starts near 962 Mt Jefferson Rd and follows a mountain loop that returns to the picnic shelter finish.
The course covers roughly 5 ish miles with about 1600 ish feet of elevation gain and reaches a highest point above 4600 feet. The route begins with about a one mile road climb to the park entrance, then follows Mountain Ridge Trail to a left turn toward the picnic shelter. From the picnic shelter the route continues to Summit Trail, then to Rhododendron Trail, onto Lost Province Trail, and completes a clockwise loop back to the picnic shelter finish.
All finishers receive a custom bell, and spectators who come up the final climb also receive a custom bell. The top three male and top three female overall finishers receive custom bells. There will be music and refreshments on the summit during the post event gathering, and shuttles will be available to return participants downhill once the event concludes.
