Mount Jefferson Ascent
The Mount Jefferson Ascent takes place in West Jefferson, North Carolina. This event offers participants the opportunity to traverse a mountain course that features approximately 1600 feet of elevation gain, reaching a peak elevation of over 4600 feet. The course consists of a variety of terrain types including paved roads and established trails within the park.
The event features two primary participation options:
- 5 Mile Climb
- Untimed Hike
The route begins with a 1 mile climb on the road leading to the park entrance. Participants then transition onto the Mountain Ridge Trail before turning toward the picnic shelter. The path continues onto the Summit Trail, followed by the Rhododendron Trail and the Lost Province Trail. The course concludes by completing a clockwise loop that returns to the finish line located at the picnic shelter.
Upon reaching the finish, local mountain music and refreshments are provided at the summit. Shuttles are available to transport participants back down the mountain once the event concludes. All finishers receive a custom bell, and specific awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers in the timed category. A portion of the registration fees is donated to the Blue Ridge Conservancy to support the construction of new trails in Ashe County.
