Monument Valley Ultra
Monument Valley Ultra is a trail race day at Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park on March 13, 2027. The event offers multiple distances and has a participant cap of 500 runners.
- 50K: multi-loop trail race with three visits to Three Sisters Aid Station.
- Half Marathon: 13.1 mile route using Sentinel Mesa and Valley Drive trails.
- 4-Miler: shorter Wildcat Trail loop.
Courses use singletrack trail, dirt roads and the Valley Drive. The 50K includes an 11-mile out-and-back to Mitchell Mesa and a 7.8-mile Backcountry segment that passes Totem Pole, Rain God Mesa, Sand Springs and The Cube. Cut-offs are located at Three Sisters Aid Station at mile 20.95 and mile 28.75; runners who miss cut-offs may be directed or transported to the finish. All races finish by sundown.
Aid stations are well stocked with hydration, medical support and varied nutrition including Honey Stinger products, Gatorade, salty snacks, fruit, sandwiches and gels. Mitchell Mesa has a light aid station; Three Sisters is a major support point. The event is cup-less; runners must carry their own bottle or hydration pack. Portajohns are available and runners are asked to follow backcountry etiquette.
Drop bags may be left for Three Sisters and must be labeled with name and bib number; unclaimed bags are donated after 30 days. Pacers may join runners after the Mitchell Mesa segment. Finisher medals and overall and age-group awards are provided. March averages in Monument Valley are about 60°F high and 37°F low. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
