Montana Cup

The Montana Cup is a team based cross country meet scheduled for October 31, 2026, in the Billings region of Montana. The event brings together regional teams from across the state to compete for a traveling trophy awarded to the top team.

Racing is organized by gender and age divisions: women age 40 and older, women age 39 and under, men age 40 and older, and men age 39 and under. These divisions are still included in overall results. Entry fee is listed at $30 per participant.

Teams must represent the Montana city where a runner lives, works, or attends school; residency may be verified at check in. Non residents and athletes currently listed on collegiate rosters may compete as unaffiliated non scoring runners and remain eligible for individual awards.

The course distance varies each year but is always between 5k and 8k, typically over rough cross country terrain with grass, dirt, gravel, steep sections, and possible mud or snow crossings. Participants are required to wear an official Montana Cup team jersey; loaner jerseys are provided and jerseys may be purchased after the event.

Race day includes check in and packet pickup, a national anthem, separate women's and men's races, and awards plus refreshments. The event is hosted by Yellowstone Rim Runners. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
