Molesworth Run 2026
The Molesworth Run is an 84 kilometre ultra running event across Molesworth Station, from the Molesworth Cob Cottage to Hanmer Springs, finishing at Chisholm Park. The route follows gravel roads through river valleys, passing the Acheron and Clarence rivers and crossing Ward Pass at 1145 m. The course is described in four legs with changeover points and marked signage.
Participants may enter as a solo runner, a team of two or a team of four. Distances:
- 84 km overall from Cob Cottage to Hanmer Springs.
- Leg 1 : 20 km
- Leg 2 : 22 km
- Leg 3 : 21.4 km
- Leg 4 : 20.5 km
Solo entrants must be proven ultra-distance competitors, supply previous times with entry and provide a dedicated support crew and vehicle. Two-person teams each run a marathon distance leg. Four-person teams run approximately 21 km per leg; teams may nominate to split a leg between two runners. Field limits are set at 20 solo entrants and 75 teams. Entry fees are listed for solo, two-person and four-person teams.
The event is in high country at about 1000 metres above sea level; weather can vary from severe heat to snow. The road can be rough and there is no general on-course food or water service, so competitors must provide their own support and adequate supplies. Toilets are available at the start, at a changeover point and at the Acheron Accommodation House. A medical responder is on standby and a traffic safety plan is in place; the tail-end official can withdraw competitors for safety reasons.
