Mississippi Trail 50

The Mississippi Trail 50 is a multi-distance trail event in Laurel, Mississippi, held on March 5-6, 2027 on the Longleaf Horse Trail in De Soto National Forest. The course runs through gently rolling pine forest and is mostly single track with some double-track logging roads. The event marks the 30th annual running of the festival and includes a multi-year 100 mile distance.

Distances offered:

  • 100 miles : seven 12.5-mile loops and two 6.1-mile loops.
  • 50 miles : three 12.5-mile loops and two 6.1-mile loops.
  • 50K
  • 20K

Packet pickup takes place at the trailhead on Friday for most distances, with a separate pickup window for the 100-mile entrants. There are aid stations along the course, including the MUTS aid station, and post-race food at the start/finish area. Finishers receive mementos, and belt buckles are awarded to finishers of the 50 mile and 100 mile distances. The 100-mile distance is run as an all-or-nothing event and has its own schedule and cutoffs. For the 50K and 50 mile events a 12-hour time limit applies under the National Forest Service permit. Runners may switch to a shorter distance after completing one or more loops; switching during the race makes a participant ineligible for a trophy but they are counted as a finisher.
