The 100-mile race is an all-or-nothing distance that requires completing the full course to be a finisher. Runners in the non-100-mile events may switch to a shorter race after completing one or more loops; runners who switch during the race are counted as finishers but are not eligible for trophies.

Course and services

The course runs on the Longleaf Horse Trail in a gently rolling pine forest, mostly single track with some double-track logging roads. The 50M and 100M use repeated loop formats; the 50M and 50K both have a 12-hour time limit as required by the forest permit. On-site services include post-race food at the start/finish and finisher mementos; belt buckles are awarded to 50M and 100M finishers. A MUTS aid station is present on the course.
