Miner 49er
The Miner 49er is a trail endurance event held in the Mines of Spain area in Dubuque, IA. The event offers two distances:
- 50K
- 25K
The course follows mostly single track with some double track and prairie trail. Runners see the Julien Dubuque Monument, Horseshoe Bluff, and views of the Mississippi River. The 25K course is an out-and-back with approximately 2200 feet of elevation gain; the 50K is two laps of the 25K route with about 4400 feet of gain. Trail conditions include stone steps, stream crossings, rocks, and roots. There are three aid stations stocked with typical ultramarathon nutrition.
The event takes place in a public park, so there may be non-race trail users. Pacers are not allowed. The cut off for both events is 5pm. Race registration fees are nonrefundable and nontransferable. Switching distances after registration requires confirmation with the race director; switching from 50K to 25K must be confirmed before the race start, and switching from 25K to 50K requires director verification and payment of any price difference.
Packet pick up is at the EB Lyons Interpretive Center, 8991 Bellevue Heights Rd, with scheduled pickup times on the day before and the morning of the event. No same day registration is available. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
