About the race
The Million Lights Run is an evening chip-timed event held along Chandler Boulevard in Ahwatukee with a start location at Desert Foothills Park in Phoenix, AZ. The event offers a short course for children and a 5K distance for runners and walkers. Participants pass through a display of over a million twinkling lights and encounter themed aid stations on course, including water and a peppermint station. The finish area provides hot chocolate, cookies, chocolate treats, and a commemorative finisher mug for participants.
Key event features include chip timing with live online results, an event bib, a finisher medal, a glow bracelet, sponsor goodies, live entertainment, police-monitored and professionally managed closed roads, and on-site food service. Packet pick-up is scheduled before the event and again on race day. Shirts are optional for an extra fee with a registration cutoff date.
Participation is limited to 850 entrants; the event sold out in 2022, 2023, and 2025. The event is chip timed but does not award age-group or overall prizes. Pets are not permitted. A short gravel section near the start and finish can be difficult for traditional strollers; running or off-road strollers with large wheels are recommended. Children carried in strollers do not need separate registration unless finisher items are desired. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
