Event Overview

The Mesa Falls Marathon offers several race distances on July 18, 2026. The main events are point-to-point courses starting in the Targhee National Forest and finishing in Ashton, Idaho. All shorter races start and finish at the North Fremont High School track.

Course Details

The Marathon begins at an elevation of 6,135 feet and finishes at 5,253 feet. The first 14 miles are on blacktop, followed by 3.2 miles of packed trails along Warm River, and 13.6 miles of pavement. The course is generally downhill but features one uphill climb of 300 feet over 2.8 miles between miles 17.1 and 19.9. The route offers views of the Targhee National Forest, Teton Mountains, and Lower Mesa Falls.

The Half Marathon starts at the Bear Gulch parking area. The race begins in the parking lot and follows a trail through a tunnel under the road. The route is marked with flagging and volunteers.

The 10K, 5K, and 1 Mile races all start and end at the North Fremont High School.

Logistics & Amenities

The entry fee for the marathon and half marathon includes a long-sleeved tech shirt, a finisher's medallion, bus transportation to the start, and a huckleberry milkshake for finishers. Bus transportation for marathon runners departs from North Fremont High School between 4:30 AM and 4:45 AM. For half marathon runners, buses depart between 6:00 AM and 6:30 AM. Runners must provide their own transportation back from the finish.

Aid stations are located approximately every 2 miles along the marathon and half marathon courses. They provide PowerBar gels, Gu gels, Nutrigrain bars, Gatorade, Powerade, water, bananas, oranges, and sports lube. Restroom facilities and porta-potties are available at the starts, along the courses, and at the finish.

Packet pickup is available the day before the race in Ashton. On race day, marathon packet pickup starts at 4:00 AM. The prerace dinner is held on Friday night at the Ashton Community Center.

Timing is provided by Vector Timing. Age group awards are presented in 10-year increments. There are no official course cutoff times. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
