Meridian Hydro Half Marathon
The Meridian Hydro Half Marathon is an annual fund-raising event organised by the Fiordland Trails Trust to support expansion and maintenance of the Lake2Lake trail. The event was established in 2019 and includes multiple distances to suit different participants.
The course follows sections of the Lake2Lake trail and includes riverside and lakeside running, trails through native beech forest, short sections of road and 4WD track, and some undulating terrain with a maximum elevation of 240 m. The route passes Rainbow Reach, Horseshoe Bend, Queens Reach, the Upper Waiau River, Lake Te Anau control gates, Tui Bay and the Te Anau Bird Sanctuary before finishing on the Te Anau lakefront at Steamers Beach.
Facilities on course include five water stations and six toilet stops for the half marathon, with Tailwind carbohydrate and electrolyte mix plus fruit and lollies provided at selected stations. Bib collection is available in town prior to race day and at the event marquee on race day. A drop trailer is provided for personal items to be transported to the finish. The event uses live tracking and a live leaderboard through SportSplits.
Race rules include minimum age requirements and a mandatory race briefing at the start line. Prizes are awarded to top finishers and every athlete who crosses the finish line receives a medal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
