Melrose Running Festival
The Melrose Running Festival is a weekend trail running event at Mt. Remarkable National Park in the Southern Flinders Ranges, scheduled for July 23-24, 2027. The park is located just over three hours' drive north of Adelaide. The festival was first staged in 2017 and offers multiple distances with finishers receiving medals.
Distances:
- 50 km
- 30 km
- 15 km
The 50 km race has a qualifying requirement to ensure entrants have appropriate trail experience; qualifying runs must be completed by April 30. Entrants who do not meet the qualifying requirement may be eligible for a refund less a $20 administration fee or may move to the 30 km distance; final arrangements are set out in the race briefing.
Logistics from recent years include a Friday bib pick-up and pre-race dinner at the North Star Hotel in Melrose with two dinner sittings and priority seating for longer-distance entrants if capacity is limited. Medal presentations and an after-party have been held at Jacka Brothers Brewery on Saturday night where top three men and women in each distance receive awards.
Course support details note aid stations mapped on the course maps. The 15 km race has one aid station at the Mt Remarkable summit at 7.7 km. No disposable cups are provided so runners must carry their own drinking vessel. Drop bags for 50 km and 30 km can be delivered at bib pick-up or on race morning and must be clearly marked. Organizers publish separate mandatory gear lists for good and bad weather and will confirm requirements in the days before the event; temperatures at race start may be near 0 degrees.
