Event overview
The Massanutten Mountain Trails 100 Mile Run is a 100-mile trail ultramarathon on the Massanutten Mountains in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, within the George Washington National Forest. The course is rocky and includes short, rugged mountain climbs that total over 18,000 feet of ascent. The event uses a 36-hour cutoff. Aid stations are described as well-stocked and the route is marked. Runners are required to carry a GPS tracking device while on the course, but official finish times are recorded live by volunteer timekeepers rather than by GPS data.
Location, entry and support
The start and finish are at Caroline Furnace Lutheran Camp / Camp Roosevelt Road in Fort Valley, VA. Entry opens on October 31, 2025 at 8:00 AM ET and the published refund deadlines include March 1, 2026 (refund minus $25) and April 16, 2026 (refund minus $100 subject to entrant and waitlist conditions). The event does not allow deferrals or bib transfers. The organizing club runs multiple training runs on the course in the months before the race, and the event relies on volunteers to staff aid stations and timing. Weather in May can include rain and occasional violent storms in some years. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
