Course and history
The Mary Lou Triathlon takes place at Deyo Reservoir near Weippe, Idaho. The event moved to Deyo Reservoir for 2021 and 2022 and was renamed in 2023; it was previously the Bald Mountain Triathlon held at Bald Mountain Ski Area in 2020. The race uses a single transition area at the reservoir.
Distances:
- 300 yards swim from the sandy beach
- ~13 miles bike route leaving the reservoir and returning via gravel roads and a forested trail
- 2.2 miles run on the trail around the reservoir
Logistics, rules and safety
Packet pick up is scheduled Saturday, June 13, 3:00 - 5:30pm at the Schmidt House across from Deyo Reservoir, and Sunday, June 14, 6:30 - 7:00am at Deyo Reservoir. Athlete briefings are Saturday, June 13, 5:00pm at Schmidt House and Sunday, June 14, 7:30am at Deyo Reservoir. Limited parking is available and camping is offered near the reservoir.
No roads are closed for the event; there will be traffic control at major intersections and participants must yield to traffic. The event is not USA Triathlon (USAT) sanctioned and a USAT card is not required, but USAT rules will be followed. Wetsuits are discouraged for the short swim but are allowed if water temperature is less than 84 degrees. No lifejackets are allowed. Helmets are required for the duration of the bike ride.
