Mary Lou Triathlon
The Mary Lou Triathlon is held at Deyo Reservoir outside Weippe, Idaho. The event was previously named the Bald Mountain Triathlon and was held at Bald Mountain Ski Area in 2020. The race moved to Deyo Reservoir for 2021 and 2022 and was renamed in honor of the Deyo family matriarch in 2023.
The course uses a sandy beach swim that traverses 300 yards before a single transition to mountain bike gear. The bike route leaves the reservoir along Schmidt Mill Road to 3 Mile Road to Fidler Road, then follows a forested trail back to 3 Mile Road and the reservoir, a ride of approximately 13 miles. The run follows a well traveled trail around the reservoir of 2.2 miles.
Distances:
- Swim: 300 yards
- Bike: approximately 13 miles
- Run: 2.2 miles
Packet pickup and briefings are scheduled the day before and the morning of the race at the Schmidt House and at Deyo Reservoir. Parking is limited and camping is available near the reservoir. Roads are not closed for the race; traffic control will be in place at major intersections and participants must yield to traffic. The event is not USAT sanctioned but will abide by USAT competitive rules. Wetsuits are discouraged for the short swim but are allowed if water temperature is under 84 degrees. Lifejackets are not allowed. Helmets are required for the duration of the bike. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
