Malad Valley Marathon
The Malad Valley Marathon is a multi-distance running event held in Malad City, Idaho, each year on the second Saturday of September. All distances start and finish at Malad City Park, 20 S 100 W, on a valley course framed by the Bannock Range to the east and the Sublett Range to the west. The location sits at about 4,500 feet elevation.
The event offers five distances:
- 1 Mile
- 5K
- 10K
- Half Marathon
- Full Marathon
About half of each mile is on hard-packed dirt rather than paved road, and the course follows quiet valley roads. Aid stations are located roughly every 2-3 miles and are stocked with GU and water; first-aid kits are available along the course. Chip timing is provided for the 5K, 10K, Half, and Full distances. Participants receive a finisher medal and a technical race shirt.
Malad City was founded in 1864 and lies nine miles from the Idaho-Utah border. The community is noted for its Welsh heritage and local involvement in the event.
