Independence Series
The Independence Series runs Wednesday June 2 to Sunday June 6 2027 across five states: Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York. Each day is held at a park venue: Lums Pond State Park (Bear DE), Fair Hills Natural Resources Management Area (Elkton MD), Daniel Boone Homestead (Birdsboro PA), High Point State Park (Sussex NJ), and Thomas Bull Memorial Park (Montgomery NY).
The series uses looped courses; tentative marathon lap counts are listed for each day. Surfaces vary by site and include hard packed dirt, grass, gravel, crushed gravel, and asphalt. Per lap elevation estimates range from about 39 feet to about 175 feet depending on the course. One site notes that most participants will walk roughly a half mile to the start from parking.
There is a single large aid station on course serving a range of food and drink items, including fruit, jelly beans, sandwiches, water, Gatorade, and hot coffee. The event operates a mobile kitchen named Loony Lunchbox.
All participants receive a shirt and multiple medals: a Starter Medal, a Year Tab Medal, and a State Medal for each state completed. A Series Finisher Medal is awarded to those who complete all days. Additional recognitions include an award for first time full or half marathon finishers and a caboose medal for the final finisher of each marathon and half marathon.
Packet pickup is available the day before the series at Lums Pond State Park and on each race day at the event location. The series has no official time limit, walkers are welcome, pets are not allowed, and strollers are permitted. Registration is available online, by mail, at packet pickup, or on race day; entry fees are non refundable and not transferable.
