Apostle Islands Running Event
The Madeline Island Marathon and Half Marathon takes place on a rural island within the Apostle Islands of Wisconsin. The event features two primary distances:
- Marathon
- Half marathon
Both courses are designed as loops with a common start and finish area, incorporating out and back sections along the route. The terrain consists primarily of paved surfaces, supplemented by segments of packed gravel. Both courses are USATF certified, and the marathon distance serves as a Boston Qualifier.
Participation is subject to registration limits to maintain the event's rural character. The marathon is capped at 150 participants, while the half marathon is limited to 350 runners. Due to these capacity restrictions, the races frequently reach their maximum participant count.
The event is located at 668 Fort Rd in La Pointe. Access to the island is available via ferry. The race also supports the Ashwabay Outdoor Education Foundation through fundraising efforts integrated into the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
