The Madder Than A Wet Hen 5K takes place on Saturday, July 25, 2026, in Charleston, Illinois. The event is held at 17737 E County Road 380N and is organized by Willenborg Woods, which maintains the trails on the property. Registration is limited to 125 participants and closes on Monday, July 20. The race distance is 5K.
Course and logistics
The course uses winding forest trails and an abbreviated back half of a winter counterpart course. Runners encounter approximately 1,100 feet of elevation gain over the 5K. A one-third mile section runs down the middle of the Embarras River; in July the water is described as ankle to knee deep with sandy bars and rocky riffles. Near the finish is a steep climb known as Billy Goat Hill. Post-race food includes pancakes and ice cream.
Primitive tent camping is available on site for a $10 add-on purchased through registration or the event store. Porta potties and an outdoor shower are provided for campers. Lodging is also available nearby in Charleston, IL. The organizer notes participants should plan for hot weather and bring footwear that can get wet and sandy.
