Lüneburg Trail Run 2026
The Lüneburg Trail Run is a multi-distance trail running event held at the Lüneburg church race village in KwaZulu-Natal. The event offers several course options that use mountain trails, jeep tracks, farm roads and cattle paths around Ncaga mountain, with water points and checkpoints on each route.
Distances:
- 65 km Ultra Trail, technical terrain and rough surfaces
- 23 km Trail with multiple water points
- 10 km Beginner trail route
- 5 km Short fun run or walk
The 65 km race is highly technical, with steep early climbing to Ncaga mountaintop, rolling jeep tracks, rocky descents and several stream crossings. It includes six checkpoints, a total ascent listed as 2400 m and a series of compulsory safety and equipment requirements. Missing required items incurs time penalties; required items include trail shoes, headlamp, GPS device with course loaded, charged phone, running pack with 2 L water capacity and emergency rations, among others.
The 23 km course shares the initial climb to the mountaintop, has four water points and stream crossings suitable for refilling soft flasks. The 10 km route begins with an ascent but does not reach the summit. The 5 km event is a short route with little elevation aimed at families and children.
