Lundy Island Race
The Lundy Island Race is a trail running event on Lundy Island that covers 14 miles of island tracks tended by the Landmark Trust. The route visits the North lighthouse, traverses eastern and western clifftops and runs along the island's central spine with some sidetracks, providing a continuous circuit from the village start and finish on the village green near the Marisco Tavern.
The event operates a chartered raceboat, the MS Oldenburg, which provides day return travel and has capacity for 250 runners; when the raceboat is full the race entry is full. A non-raceboat entry option exists for participants who make their own travel arrangements and stay on the island in a campsite or one of the cottages. The minimum age for entrants is 17 years for both raceboat and non-raceboat options.
The race is fully marked and marshalled, with first aid on course and at race headquarters. There are fully stocked aid stations at both ends of the island, including the North Lighthouse. Registration takes place on the village green by the Marisco Tavern and involves a short uphill walk of about 15 minutes from the landing.
Mandatory kit includes the capacity to carry 250 ml of water, trail shoes, a back or waist pack, head cover, waterproof jacket, foil blanket and a mobile phone. The event is run under England Athletics rules with a permit issued by the Trail Running Association. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
