Lonesome Pine 24
Lonesome Pine 24 is a 24 hour timed trail event organized by Sun Trail Running at Scott County Park in Long Grove, IA. The race uses a short lollipop loop that allows frequent access to aid and personal gear and is designed for runners to accumulate as many miles as they wish within the 24 hour period.
The primary loop measures 3.65 miles with about 350 feet of elevation gain. The surface is mainly wooded double track dirt with under a mile of asphalt or park road. Much of the route is non-technical and flowing with small rolling hills. In the final hour the course transitions to a short 1/3 mile loop around the start/finish to allow maximum mileage.
One fully stocked aid station is located at the Whispering Pines shelter. Dropbags may be stored inside the pavilion and there is space outside for crew canopies. Pacers are permitted after the 12 hour mark; only one pacer may accompany a runner at a time and pacers must join at the start/finish and remain on foot. Runners must complete continuous, full loops to earn credit; partial loops are not counted.
Awards are given to participants who complete at least 50k and to overall winners. Runners who reach 100 miles receive a custom belt buckle. Registration is online only; the event does not offer refunds or bib transfers. A waitlist is maintained if the race reaches capacity. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
