19th Annual Lisa Shampoe 5K
The Lisa Shampoe 5K is an annual charity event held at the Mission Hike and Bike Trail in Mission, Texas. This 19th edition of the run and walk takes place on a paved path, featuring an out and back course design. The event is organized by the Lisa Shampoe Cancer Care Foundation to support cancer awareness, research, and financial assistance for those undergoing treatment.
The event includes the following distances:
- 5 km run/walk
Participants follow a paved route suitable for running, jogging, or walking. All registered participants receive a custom participation medal. The event also offers individual awards for the top three male and female finishers in several age categories, ranging from ages 9 and under to 70 and over. Additionally, awards are presented to the overall male and female winners of the 5 km race.
The race is conducted in conjunction with IBC Bank, which matches donations to MD Anderson dollar for dollar. The Lisa Shampoe Cancer Care Foundation has raised significant funds over nearly two decades to provide local community support and non-medical home care services. Registrants are eligible for a shirt, with a stock of 300 available on a first-come, first-served basis according to size. Pre-registered participants are also entered into a raffle drawing.
