The event is organized by LASAA. LASAA’s mission is to provide athletic events for its members, who are Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department employees and law enforcement personnel, to promote health, fitness, and camaraderie.
The Mug Run series began in 1993. Early editions primarily involved law enforcement personnel with an average of 10 runners. The series later opened to the general public and participation has grown to more than 300 runners.
The race is described as providing outside friendly competition and positive interaction between law enforcement and the community.
