Lamington Classic Trail Run
The Lamington Classic is Australia’s oldest trail race, first held in 1970. It follows the Border Track and runs within parts of the World Heritage listed rainforest of Lamington National Park. The event commonly uses O'Reilly's (Green Mountain) and Binna Burra as start and finish locations and includes an overnight stay option at Binna Burra for the one-way crossing.
Distances offered:
- 21.3 km one-way crossing between O'Reilly's and Binna Burra.
- 42.195 km double crossing combining the two legs.
The 42.195 km entry requires prior completion of at least one "Hostile" trail race of 30 km or longer and has a compulsory three minute stop at the O'Reilly's turnaround; failure to stop results in disqualification. Competitors must carry compulsory gear: at least 1 litre of fluid at the start for the marathon (600 ml for the 21.3 km), and one compression bandage. The course distance was measured with a steel wheel and GPS readings may be affected by forest canopy.
The route is a Class 4 walking track with rough surfaces, exposed roots, creek crossings, and steep sections. Water is available only at Binna Burra and Green Mountain ends; there are no formal refreshment stops in between. Event logistics include transport of personal gear between sites and limited parking at Green Mountain. Registration fees include lunch and trophies are awarded but there is no prize money.
