Lake Metroparks PIRATE Triathlon and Paddle Triathlon
The event takes place at Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park in Fairport Harbor, Ohio. It offers both a triathlon option and a paddle triathlon option, with separate individual and team relay entries and published entry fees.
Distances:
- Swim: 500 meters in Lake Erie, start in the water.
- Kayak: ~2 kilometers, beach start west of the swim course.
- Bike: 20 kilometers out and back on paved roads.
- Run: 5 kilometers on paved roads within Fairport Village.
The swim is in Lake Erie with an approximate depth of 6 feet at the start. Wet suits are permitted and flotation devices are not allowed. Lifeguards are on duty; swimmers who tire may touch bottom where able and resume when ready. The kayak course begins on the beach, paddles north then east parallel to the swim course, then returns to the same beach location.
The bike leg follows paved township roads in an out-and-back format and is marked with directional arrows. Bicycle helmets are required. Local law enforcement will attempt to control traffic at intersections, but racers must follow traffic laws and exercise caution; there are six railroad crossings on the route. The run course is on paved roads, marked with directional arrows, and remains within Fairport Village limits with traffic control at critical intersections.
Entry fees are listed as $30 for individual swim and kayak entries and $50 for team relay. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
