Lake Metroparks Pirate Triathlon
The Lake Metroparks Pirate Triathlon at Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park takes place on August 2, 2026. The event includes individual and team relay entries and a paddle triathlon option with kayak starts on Lake Erie.
Distances:
- Swim 500 meters or Kayak 2 kilometers
- Bike 20 kilometers
- Run 5 kilometers
The swim begins in Lake Erie in water approximately six feet deep. Wetsuits are permitted and flotation devices are not allowed. Lifeguards are on duty. For safety, a tired swimmer may stop, touch bottom if able, and then resume swimming.
The kayak course starts on the beach west of the swim course, proceeds north about 100 meters, then east parallel to the swim course before returning to the departure beach. The course is approximately two kilometers.
The bicycle leg is a 20 kilometer out and back on paved public roads, starting from Fairport Beach and traveling east through Painesville Township before returning on the same route. Bicycle helmets are required. The route is marked with directional arrows. Local law enforcement will attempt to hold traffic at intersections, but participants must follow traffic laws. There are six railroad crossings on the bike course; cross with caution.
The 5 kilometer run is on paved roads within Fairport Village limits, marked with directional arrows. Runners share the road with traffic; traffic control will be in place at critical intersections. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
