Lake Frances Triple P Triathlon

The Lake Frances Triple P (Paddle, Pedal, Pace) is a kayak triathlon held at Lake Frances, Valier, Montana. The event combines paddling, cycling and running on separate, marked courses. Competitors may register as individuals or as two or three person teams. A portion of race proceeds supports Valier area recreation and fitness projects.

Distances for the three legs:

  • Kayak: 1.5 miles
  • Bike: 12 miles
  • Run: 3 miles

Packet and timing chip pickup is scheduled Friday, June 12 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Fireman’s Pavilion at the south end of the Lake Frances Campground, with limited late pickup the morning of the event.

Key participant rules cover safety and course conduct. Ears should remain uncovered to hear approaching traffic and wildlife. Participants must not litter and may be penalized for throwing trash. Bikers should stay to the right except when passing and must be aware roads may be open to public traffic. All courses will be marked and participants must stay within course boundaries.

Paddle specifics include use of any kayak type, a required double bladed paddle, hand powered paddles only, and a U.S. Coast Guard approved personal flotation device; inflatable PFDs are not allowed. Kayaks and bicycles must be stored in designated areas and competitors must follow transition procedures before proceeding to the next leg.
