About the race
The Kruger2Canyon Challenge is a two‑day trail running and hiking event held in Kampersrus near Hoedspruit, Limpopo. The event was established in 2015 and is based at Laerskool Mariepskop, about 30 minutes from Hoedspruit. The route explores the northern Drakensberg and the Blyde River Canyon on Day 1 and the adjacent bushveld on Day 2 at Moholoholo Mountain View.
Day 1 is described as the Mountain Day around Mariepskop and the Blyde River Canyon. Day 2 takes place in the bushveld and notes the presence of buffalo, hippo, leopard and various plains game at Moholoholo Mountain View. A short 5 km trail is offered on Day 1.
Available stage race options with day splits and elevation gain:
- 70 km: Day 1 – 42 km, 2300 m elev; Day 2 – 28 km, 410 m elev
- 44 km: Day 1 – 25 km, 1440 m elev; Day 2 – 19 km, 370 m elev
- 30 km: Day 1 – 16 km, 1080 m elev; Day 2 – 14 km, 280 m elev
- 20 km: Day 1 – 10.1 km, 550 m elev; Day 2 – 10 km, 230 m elev
Hikers are explicitly welcome on some routes and the 20 km and 30 km options are described as hiker friendly with no official cut offs. The event includes race information, entry packages, accommodation options and a race village presence related to local conservation groups.
