Kangaroo Island Marathon
The Kangaroo Island Run Festival features a range of road and coastal running events held inside Flinders Chase National Park on Kangaroo Island, South Australia. The event was established in 2015 and has welcomed runners from 25 countries and every Australian state over the past decade. The 2026 race date is 23rd August 2026.
The course passes through the heart of a shutdown Flinders Chase National Park and includes sections that show post-bushfire regenerating flora and fauna. The route contains undulating and deviating roads, an exposed coastal section with cliff top views to the southern ocean, and a boardwalk that leads to the Remarkable Rocks. The festival received a bronze medal at the 2021 South Australian Tourism Awards for Best Regional Event & Festival; the award recognised the event's resilience following the 2019-2020 bushfires and its role in attracting runners back to the island.
Event ownership and travel arrangements are managed by the Adelaide-based Marathon Tours & Travel team, which offers dedicated travel packages for runners and spectators, including multi-night and self-drive options. An event merchandise store exists but is currently closed and will reopen nearer the event date.
