Kaapsehoop Mountain Ultra 2026
The Kaapsehoop Mountain Ultra takes place on the Kaapsehoop plateau in Mpumalanga. The race village is at the Kaapsehoop Pear Orchard Picnic Site. The local landscape includes plantation jeep tracks, flowing single track, Kaapsehoop rock formations, grassland escarpment, misty mountain views and plantations. The area is noted for a herd of wild horses, blue swallow habitat and nearby ancient stones known as Adam’s Calendar.
Distances offered include:
- 69 km : 2750 m elevation, 6 aid stations, two-loop route.
- 45 km : 1800 m elevation, 4 aid stations, single loop.
- 17 km : 540 m elevation, 1 aid station, dog on leash friendly.
- 8 km : 235 m elevation, 1 aid station, dog on leash friendly.
The 69 km race is run as two loops returning to the Pear Orchard; the 45 km follows the same first loop. Checkpoints and water tables are provided on course and the route is marked. Published cut off durations are 14 hours for the 69 km, 8 hours for the 45 km, 6.5 hours for the 17 km and 4 hours for the 8 km.
Event services include medical staff, ablution facilities, food and refreshment stalls, a finisher item or beverage, and a finisher meal or cap/buff for selected entries. Compulsory equipment lists vary by distance and include items such as a waterproof jacket with hood, thermal top for longer distances, trail shoes, a charged cell phone and a headlamp with spare batteries for the ultra distance.
Accommodation options near the race village include canvas tents in a runner village, a basic hiking hut without electricity, and converted railway coaches with electricity and shower access.
