5K for K9s at Alum Creek State Park
The 5K for K9s is an 18th annual charity 5K run and walk held at the Alum Creek State Park Beach Area in Lewis Center, Ohio. The event benefits the Franklin County Dog Shelter and Adoption Center, with an all-volunteer nonprofit structure so that 100% of proceeds fund medical care for shelter dogs. Dogs are welcome to participate in the in-person event.
The in-person event includes a race packet with an event T-shirt (guaranteed for pre-registration), a race bib with timing chip, a goodie bag with sponsor items, and pre and post-race refreshments. A virtual 5K option is available for participants who prefer to complete a 5K on their own route; the virtual window runs from September 24 to September 27, 2026, and virtual participants receive an event T-shirt and a goodie bag by mail.
Registration pricing is published in tiers, with early bird, regular, and race day rates for the in-person event. Free parking is available at the Alum Creek beach area lot. The event is organized by Friends of the Shelter and lists local Columbus businesses among its sponsors. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
